  • Need Some Tips for O2 Sensor Replacement

Has anyone done this and has some tips? I have a service manual, but many times there is an easier way.

I am not getting a SES light, but I my gas mileage is no good 16-17mpg city and I just turned over 100,000mi. I know I should have slightly lower mpg because I have 275's on all corners and my tranny has a 2800 stall. But I am hoping to squeeze out 2 or 3 mpg's city.

With gas at 3.35/gal, it will be worth it.

its just the turn of the wrench. nothing hard. only thing is the driver sensor plug is half way up the back of the engine. you will need to just in the right position to grab it.

something i just learned today while attempting to do mine. let the car run for a few minutes. it'll make getting them out alot easier.. but you'll get a nice burn or two like me lol.

that being said... im having all kinds of trouble getting the passenger side 02 out. i tried for about an hour to no avail!!!!! it in a tight spot and i cant even get the flippin thing to budge an inch. drivers side was a peice of cake, except for getting the damn sensor plug to come off. of course this is on an lt1 but none the less its about the same except 93-95 only have 2 o2s. any ideas blldogg? because im stumped on it.

btw pewterbird.. pick up a o2 remover socket it makes things alot easier.

Havent worked on an LT1 in a long time. im guessing your using a wrench. ....ponders.... do you think an o2 socket would help? try spraying a rust off type chemical on the sensor where it connects to the piping. thats what i do at work everytime and it usually helps. did you try using a another wrench as a cheater bar? if you think that the wrench might be too long for what you need, sears sells shorty wrenchs. they are like 4-5in long and can really help when your in a pickel. wish i could help more. havent been under one in a long time and cant think what it looks like exactly. and i dont think i have ever gotten under a 3.4 f-body

yeah ive tried a few wrenches and cheaterbar. ill try picking up a shorter one tommorrow. yes i have a 02 socket i can get it on there but there is **** for room to get enough leverage to get it to budge. id say i have about 5 inches of room to work with going through the bottom with my hand in between the ypipe. lt1s o2s are on on the passenger manifold up top and the drivers side is down low by the oil filter.

ill try getting some rust off stuff to. i just needed someone to bounce ideas off of here, becuase im out of them. lol

This a a PITA. What kind of wrench should I use. I didn't have on big enough, and my crecent was to long. Its a tight squeeze. Is it even possible without disconnecting the ypipe?
