87 is making my car run rough right now, and I'm not sure if it's knocking; it has poor acceleration now, and sounds louder than usual (sounds more like a Borla than Flowmaster exhaust), with some occasional muffled thuds, when I take my foot off the pedal.
I've added xylene, about 3 1/2 oz to a full tank, but that doesn't seem to help; I'm going to add 3oz more and see what happens

Xylene? Whats that do? add octane? How about Acetone like in your previous post?
the acetone is to aid vaporization of gasoline; xylene is an effective octane booster.
both are present in Berryman's Chemtool B12, but i just bought quarts of each.
after I added 3 more oz of xylene, it sounded a little better. I'm going to add another 3 oz today. Xylene concentration in gasoline should be greater much than acetone, and xylene isn't nearly as volatile as acetone, or even toluene (another effective octane booster). Xylene is commonly added to race fuel, so is toluene
next time I fill up, I'll just switch back to 89 gas, and treat that with 6oz of xylene.
because 89 works fine, trying to cut costs (and make the engine more efficient), not pay more for gas
and how exactly would I blow my car up w/ xylene or acetone?
maybe by sticking rags into the cans, setting it under my car and lighting them, certainly not by putting said chemicals in the tank, and driving
I get around 20mpg so if I add some techron, I'll get like 25 or so right? I was also thinking about mixing techron, seafoam, and lucas gas treatment with a full tank of premium. That would clean out my fuel injectors and tank. (and this is when you would say "It will also clean out your wallet.")
A good of thumb is in summer if you get significant pinging use the next higher grade.Someone said here in winter they use a higher grade ,this is a no-no! In winter use the lowest grade your car runs well on ,87 is good in winter ,if not best for our cars in cold climates. It burns more readily, thus faster starts esp. in sub-zero temps!Remember all higher octane gas just refers to its ability to resist pre-detonation,so high compression engines need it most. Many surveys were done & they found out most Americans were wasting million$ in buying higer octane gas when they actually did nothing to improve performance or milage.Bottom line if you got a F-body reg. compression V6 87 should be fine.Even in my Corvette manual it says 93 is best for the LS1,but you could also run 87 ,but your car will not accelerate as well, because of knock sensors. In my '98 Camaro V6,it runs like a deer & idles like a clock with plain old 87,just whats recomened.
i filled up my car with 89 (though it still had half a tank of 87, acetone, xylene) and added 60 ml acetone (yup, still spiking the punch), and voila! accel/power is back, no pinging.
Haven’t done anything on the Camaro, but put LEDs on my truck headlights . And my oil pressure sensor went out on the truck so going to fix that this...
