I heard that using Premium gas in a 1998 Camaro will boost the HP a tad? Is there any truth in that?

always run the lowest octane you can run without knockWolf
95 black t-top camaro,3.4 5 speed,ud pullies,plugs/wires,de-shaft tb & gutted airbox, homemaid short throw shifter

THE OPPOSITE WILL HAPPEN????? how do you figure. If you run 91 octane after about a tank or 2 the pcm will start to recognize the abscence, or reduced knock signal and shift into a different timing table where the timing gets advanced a few more degrees. When this happens you will get a small horsepower gain 1-2 maybe. However from a financial standpoint you do want to run the lowest octane that you can get away with..personally I use 912005 Magnum

I cannot believe there is another post on this same subject. How many times does this have to be posted? :rolleyes:
And no, there is no benefit to anything over 87, unless your car's fuked up or you just like throwing money away. If that's the case, just send it to me instead.Matt

"Higher Octance = Performance" is just a myth.
It's the other way around.
Performance = Higher Octane
Even if you're running a performance mill under the hood, you're not going to notice any differences until you start changing the compression or with certain kinds of headwork.
Maybe turbo's or supercharger would affect this, but I've never owned a turbo'ed car.
I know several people who claim 91 makes there car run better, harder, and get better mileage.
I borrowed one of these peoples car for a few days last year and filled it up before I gave it back as thanks. He had asked me to only put 91 in it.
Knowing that he knows as much about cars as I do about rocket science, I filled it up with 87 knowing that 91 was doing absolutely nothing for his completely stock 2003 Honda Civic daily driver.
He called me the following weekend and asked where I had filled it up because he got another 45 miles out of his tank for the week to work.
He's been running 87 since.
The 87 probably didn't actually affect his gas mileage that drastically, but it was enough proof for him that 20 more cents a gallon wasn't worth the "peace of mind".
Alot of the "I can feel the difference with 91" in stock cars is all mental.
