  • Which kind of gasoline is best for a Camaro?

I heard that using Premium gas in a 1998 Camaro will boost the HP a tad? Is there any truth in that?

THE OPPOSITE WILL HAPPEN????? how do you figure. If you run 91 octane after about a tank or 2 the pcm will start to recognize the abscence, or reduced knock signal and shift into a different timing table where the timing gets advanced a few more degrees. When this happens you will get a small horsepower gain 1-2 maybe. However from a financial standpoint you do want to run the lowest octane that you can get away with..personally I use 91

I've never used anything lower than 91 in my v6 firebird though I suppose I could give it a try. The consensus is usually 91 for the v6 f-body though.

I always ran 91 in mine cause it knocked with 89, but if I remember correctly from the owners manual, its made for 89

I saw absolutely positively no difference in performance between 89 and 93, infact I LOST 30 miles to the tank when I switched to 93... It's definately not worth the extra cash IMO...

Actually, Owner's Manual recommends 87 octane gas for the f-bodys.

30 MILES!!! ha you just lost lets say 2 miles per tank because you kept flooring it to see if it made a difference in horsepower thats all. take a long trip of only highway miles with regular, run a tank of high octane to let your computer get used to it and then use high octane for another tank for another long trip. you will probably see 20or so more miles per tank but with the inflated gas prices now its not worth it.

hmmmm, maybe i will switch to propane...

I run 93, doesnt run right on 87. I start missing at high speeds if I run the **** fuel. I get better mileage with 93 too. However if my car felt like it ran ok on 87, thats what I would use.

I've been running 89 forever with no probs, but now that summer is here I'll go to 87.

I cannot believe there is another post on this same subject. How many times does this have to be posted?

And no, there is no benefit to anything over 87, unless your car's fuked up or you just like throwing money away. If that's the case, just send it to me instead.

"Higher Octance = Performance" is just a myth.

                            It's the other way around.

                            Performance = Higher Octane

Even if you're running a performance mill under the hood, you're not going to notice any differences until you start changing the compression or with certain kinds of headwork.

Maybe turbo's or supercharger would affect this, but I've never owned a turbo'ed car.

I know several people who claim 91 makes there car run better, harder, and get better mileage.

I borrowed one of these peoples car for a few days last year and filled it up before I gave it back as thanks. He had asked me to only put 91 in it.

Knowing that he knows as much about cars as I do about rocket science, I filled it up with 87 knowing that 91 was doing absolutely nothing for his completely stock 2003 Honda Civic daily driver.

He called me the following weekend and asked where I had filled it up because he got another 45 miles out of his tank for the week to work.

                            He's been running 87 since.

The 87 probably didn't actually affect his gas mileage that drastically, but it was enough proof for him that 20 more cents a gallon wasn't worth the "peace of mind".

Alot of the "I can feel the difference with 91" in stock cars is all mental.
