Ok, for those of you who did this fan switch mod or one like it:
Homemade Manual Fan Switch
You probably throw a code and get the annoying SES light in your face!
There's an easy fix...
You need to buy three 47ohm 1watt resistors. Make sure they are the correct ones!
The idea is to increase the voltage to around 5 volts so that the pcm doesn't think anything is wrong when it checks the relay. It does not affect the normal operation of the fans and has no adverse effects that I've found yet!
Solder one resistor in series in the Dark Green Wire (this is the one for low speed) It should look like this:
This is the wire:-----
This is the resistor:~
------ ~ ------
Make sure to wrap it in electrical tape to keep from possibly shorting something out.
Next, cut the dark blue wire (the one for high speed) and solder two resistors in series with the wire.
It will look like this:
------ ~ ~ ------
Wrap it all in electrical tape, and you're good to go.
I've been running with this for about a month now, and no problems at all! No more SES light either. :D
EDIT: I should probably have mentioned this is a OBDII fix only...OBDI cars are totally different...
