  • used the oil dye to find a leak....not a good diagnosis

So i bought that flourescent dye you add to the oil from the dealership for like 8 dollars to find an oil leak. I then cleaned my motor off and then added the additive to the oil tube.

Nothing happened for like 10 mins, then it just started comin out, it was hard to tell where the source was cause the was so much dye and i was lazy and didnt pay attention when the dye first started seeping.

I then turned my car off and looked around. There is dye dripping from the sending unit, the oil filter, and the inside of the crank pulley is full of dye. My guess is that its leaking from the front seal onto the pulley and then the oil is bring flung off the pulley causing the oil streaks on the underside of the hood and right below the crank pulley.

Thats about it, what do you guys think??

ok so i take it in to get worked on and completely fix it this morning and the deal had more bad news for me.

originally when I did my cam install I messed up the crank bolt threads in the crank and tried to retap them. When I was putting the crank pulley back on the gear that sticks into the threads wouldnt come out. So right now that is my crank bolt. And the dealer said he doesnt wanna mess with it because he is afraid it will not be a good thing.

My question to you is that I may possibly need to take it to an independent garage and have them try to retap the crank threads or get a whole new crank.

What do u guys think? how much can I get a new crank and install for??
