  • Is my starter dead?

My car wouldn't start last night so I got a few friends to give me a push and jumped started it. This morning I tried to boost it and nothing. I just get a loud clicking sound so my guess is it's my starter. What do you think?

Turns out it wasn't the starter but my battery. I wanted to test it one more time so I tried running all my accessories and noticed that when I turned my lights on the stereo would turn off so it seemed like the battery was on its last legs. I got a new battery and it now starts up fine. The strange thing was I couldn't boost it with cables.

Sometimes a battery is so far gone that you can't charge or jumpstart it at all. I haven't ever looked deeply into why or how this happens but I can think of a couple possibilities.

Usually it's just a really old battery that does that though, so it seems strange that it happened to you.

It happened to me on my 65 Plymouth Fury though. It still had the original battery (I wish I would've kept it and had it rebuilt now) When I bought it I had to switch a battery from my father in laws van to start it. The old one wouldn't jumpstart or take a charge for ANYTHING.
