i have a 94 firebird v6 and i want to put a 160 degree thermostat in my car. i heard that it can cause problem with your ecu throwing codes at you on a 01, and I would like to know if that is true for the 94 firebirds aswell.
I never had a problem throwing codes. but I live in virginia and when winter came around I had to go up to a 180 therostat because I was getting almost no heat in the car with the 160

Yeah it depends where you live man. If you are in a place where you have zero winter, then a 160 is fine. I live in new england, so I need a 180 thermostat.
I'd say the best thing to do is to do a search to see how to install a manual fan switch. No need to worry about throwing a code, and you can turn your fan on whenever you wish.
I just put a 160 hypertech t-stat in my 95 v6. Its easy putting it in but it sux getting the two bolts out you need little hands. Here is a link to show you how to hook up a manual fan switch http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2197072/4
