Had the same problem once, but mine went to around 3k rpm's and stayed there for 5-7 seconds, and my foot was nowhere near the gas pedal. The SES light never came on either when the idle went up. Turns out it was my IAC (intake air control) Sensor that went bad. Got a new one at Autozone for $26.00, and the idle problem went away.
