  • NEED HELP OIL PRESSURE 110

I have a 95 3.8 and a week ago I sprung a oil leak from the point from where the wire harness connects into (what I understand to be the oil pressure regulator valve) so I replaced the regulator valve (cylinder thing with a plug on one end) and now when I first start up my car my gauge reads about 110psi then after the engine warms up to about 180 degrees it drops down to 90 psi driving and 55-60 psi idling. in my understanding I need to replace the oil pressure sending unit which would be the wiring harness am I correct. Thanks for any help.

Did you change #7? That is the Oil Pressure Sensor.

To change the Oil Pressure Relief Valve you have to remove the filter and the part the filter screws onto.

yeah thats what I had replaced #7 so do you think I need to replace the release valve that is the part with the spring right? do you think that would fix my problem? Thanks

You're on the right track, the relief valve isn't opening for some reason. Swap it out, it's not a very big job. (although I've never done an oil change on a 4th gen V6, so I don't know whats in the way)

If the oil pressure wasn't showing that high before you worked on it, I'd bet there's a problem with the sensor.

Is there any way to test the sensor or do I just buy a new one. The old leaking sensor was reading at 35-40psi which is low, compared to when I was running at 60psi before the leak, also I was low on oil while running at 35psi.

You either got the wrong oil pressure sending unit or the one that you have is out of calibration.

I've just installed a second oil sending unit and still no diffrence I also changed the oil and filter. While I was under the car from the passanger side I saw a wet spot on the rear passanger side of the engine just above where the tranny and engine connect behind the silver circle I think that is an oil seal. Any other suggestions would help thanks

Get a manual oil pressure gauge put on it and see if it is reading the same as your electrical one

I finally got it taken care of it was the oil pressure sending unit, but it was Advanced auto who gave me the wrong sending unit twice so now Iam out 40 for the two switches plus the 80 I paid the mechanic. Anyone else have a problem from them giving you the wrong part.
