Hey, I live in CA where Cat's are required. Now I don't know anything about taking it off, but is it fairly easy to do so, and put it back on? I kind of want to run my car with no cat for at least a day. I heard that even a V6 will sound awesome with no cat. But I'm a little afraid. Will it be that easily noticeable? Will I have a lot of exhaust smoke? Will I get pulled over (I drive to work every morning in a business district that happens to house a police district station)?

Running No Cat in California

It's not hard to take off your cat, but just get a resonator or something to put in place of it. I got the Dynomax resonator (about $30) switched in for my cat, with the Flowmaster 2.5" catback system, and mine sounds pretty decent now. Still a V6, but a lot better than crappy stock exhaust. You might also need an 02 sim, because taking off the cat throws a code in the little sensor that is connected to the cat. Your SES light will come on.
I don't live in CA though so I don't know if I would do it. There is really no way to tell if you don't have a cat, other than SLIGHT wisps of exhaust coming out that you can see when you are stopped. I don't think anybody would know.-----------------------------------
See my cardomain site:
http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2047216
Watch my work in progress

Yea, not as eas as I had hoped, even though I knew better. Thanks though guys. If I had a lot of money I would do it, just for a day here and there, but it aint happenin. Thanks again, I've learned a lot about cats now just making this thread and asking a buddy at work.K&N CAI, Magnaflow High Flow Cat, Flowmaster American Thunder 2.5\" Cat-back exhaust w/ 40 series Muffler (single piped exit), Pacesetter Midlength Headers, TB Bypass.

Vid of my 3.4 - http://media.putfile.com/Headers49

When my stock convertor got clogged I gutted it so I could drive around until the new high flow one came. The exhaust note was much raspier, and I didn't notice any gain in performance. My advice is just to leave it on. Also you have to cut it out and reweld it so if you plan on taking it off every now and then like you said it becomes to much of a hassle.the black 97
New favorite Mods: Hptuners, and SLP 2OTL

Just buy a highflow cat and be happy. Going catless is pointless and especially in california. I keep all my emissions stuff in florida where there is no emissions laws. My 3" magnaflow will flow way more than my car will put out.-1999 Camaro Coupe 3800 Series II V6 A4 - SOLD
-1998 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP coupe
