Intake manifold gaskets

I have a 95 3.4 V6, and I need to do the same repair that is seen in this thread.

It involved me removing the upper intake manifold. Now when I have to replace it, I know I obviously need a gasket. But I have heard some people say that you need to use some sort of liquid gasket goop in conjunction with the regular foam gasket. Is this true? Any tips are appreciated, thanks!

you'll need some gray RTV sealant

the gasket kits come with every thing you need, or atleast mine did.

the only time I ever had to use goop on the top side was teh lower intake plenum, not the mid/upper.

yea, fel pro lower intake gaskets come with black rtv, you only need to use 4 dabs
you dont need rtv/sealant on the upper intake

the fel-pro lower intake gaskets used to be good: they had black gaskets that had dowel pins/rods that fit into the block.
Now they have just been coming with $hitty blue gaskets that dont fit on the block at all, they suck bad.

Oooppsss, Didnt pay enough attention to what he said, you guys are right, you dont need it on the upper gasket

Thanks guys, one more question: Anyone know the torque spec for the upper intake manifold?

132 in/lbs for vertical bolts
side bolts are "22" thats all the haynes says
this is for 2000 and later
dont be like me and break off 2 intake bolts off in the lower intake!!! grr
its sooo easy to break those weak bolts
