I know something about full synthetic valvoline: it starts to break down REALLY fast after 5k miles if you get on the throttle a decent amount. That's what I've been using, but I'll probably switch.
-Eric
2002 Navy Blue Camaro...Striped and Stalled. 35th Anniversary SS wheels
Best ET: 15.384 @ 88.32 on street tires
Project Whitney: Goal, 14.0 1/4 by summer 2008.
Castrol GTX "High Mileage" version with a Fram "off-road" oil filter (mudding, anyone, in a camaro?) I change oil often about 1 or 2 times a month and the castrol seems to be holding up pretty good.
Mobil 1 15-50 Performance Driving (can't find it anymore, now I use the extended performance) when I can afford it. I live in hot weather, so I like the thicker oils.
Mobil 10-30 synthetic blend (clean 7500) when I am being cheap.
ACDelco filter.
I used to use straight pennzoil regular 10-30, knock it all you want, but I changed it every 3K and my engine was VERY clean when I took it apart to do the cam swap.
Now I use mobil because I can. Thats mainly the only reason.
Castrol Syntec 0w-30 labeled "made in Germany".
AC delco or Wix filter. Right now some PF52 acdelcos are actually Wix in disguise. Look for the orange anti-drainback valve.
Those old stories about "XYZ" brand motor oil messing up an engine are not applicable to even the cheapest SM rated dino oil today, assuming you don't change it every 20,000 miles...
\'00 f-bird 3.8 M5 coupe, pewter metallic
Torsen LSD, Pro 5.0 shifter, Spec stage 1 clutch, Y87 muffler, aftermarket stereo
-more fun than the Oldsmobile it replaced...
I would suggest doing a used oil analysis on whatever oil you choose. Doesn't cost too much, and you can personalize your oil choice to your driving habits.
read that NASA uses it, also saw a test where the mobil 1 engine after 200,000 miles looked less worn than the engine with traditional oil after 100,000 miles. same engines and filters.
Mobile 1 might as well be owned by GM and I wouldn't be supprised if gm corp owns a decent amount of stock in them.. Being they recomend Mobile 1.
Personally I run Mobile 1 Clean 5000
1st oil change 5w30
2nd 10w30
3rd 10w30
4th 10w40
My car has about 140k on it, and the engine is waiting to be rebuilt, once I do that I will probably go down to 5w30 or 10w30 full syn Mobile 1.
For now I love the 10w40 my bearings are a bit worn and my lifters make a bit of noise so, 4 quarts 10w40 and a quart of Marvel Mystery, keeps her fairly quiet and clean, this next change will be done after I replace my lifters, so probably all 10w40.
Haven’t done anything on the Camaro, but put LEDs on my truck headlights . And my oil pressure sensor went out on the truck so going to fix that this...
