I ust bought a 2000 Camaro V6. When slowly accelerating at aprox. 2000 RPM a can hear a "whining" sound form the engine compartment, a bit like a "turbo" sound.
The car is stock. Is this sound normal? If yes, what is the cause? If it´s not normal: What could be wrong.

I have heard that as well. I usually ask my wife to get out of the car....
No, seriously. Does it get higher pitch when the engine rpms increase? How is the voltage meter...is it sitting on the low side when the lights, a/c and stereo are on? The whine I heard was my alternator going bad...the voltage was still in the OK area but towards the low side w/headlights on (ok it was right on the line)once I replace the alt...no whine except when my wife is in the car. Yeah... it could be bearings in any of your accessories. My alternator did that too, replaced it and then it came back, except the second time it was the blower motor for the interior fans.

My friend's cavalier has a brand new alternator on it and that thing whines like a supercharger. I think it's just a GM thing. My blazer does the same thing and if I could hear it over my exhaust I'm sure my Hawk does it too.

I was tired of my blower motor making all that damn noise... I took it out and there was all kinds of crap in there--leaves, dead bugs, etc... Put it back on and it's as good as new..

any tips on removing the blower motor? I havent done it yet. do you have to remove the whole dash? yikes!!

Have a really small and really dumb friend sit under the hood for a few miles in that little space between the radiator and your drivebelt.
But mine's the same as kamaroz...I have a 180 amp alt, and it whines too. Kinda sounds like stereo whine, except it comes from under the hood and not from the speakers.

I have to go with the alternator too. I replaced mine and the whine went away, but the new alt wasn't charging. Voltage gauge was down around 8. I went through 9 alternators that day trying to find one that actually charged. I found one, but it whined too, but my voltage went back up to almost 16.
See.. the thing is.. I have the whine; however, my voltmeter gauge is high. The radio, however, when I press the brakes or something like that, dims? Weird...

If your lights tend to dim, try cleaning all the ground connections on the car or add another ground strap. That what I had to do on my brothers 92 Firebird.
Hmm, the voltage is always high, the battery seems to be full. But the car has been sitting for a year at the dealership. Since I have a warranty on it I´ll have it checked next week.

rofl, i got the same sound guys, i just replaced my alternator with another ac delco and it wines and makes a scary noise, at first i thought, oh no something is really wrong with the engine or tranny, but then i realized that it was just the alternator and i found it to be normal. but its scary **** man especially on a colder day when you start your car, it goes reeeeeeerrrrreeeeeerrrrreeeeeerrrrrrrreeeeeerrrrrr
