I've been noticing the worst gas mileage on my car. I think its around 16-18mpg. What should be the normal gas mileage on my car (82k miles)?

Last time you did a tuneup? checked tire pressure? replaced PCV Valve, replaced Fuel Filter?

So I been getting about 15 mpg and i dont floor it around everywhere. Well I just got the car in December and I dont know what the previous owner did with it but I just put in a new air fliter, cleaned out the air box and put in some fuel injector cleaner and Now I'm getting about 19 mpg!! Wish I would have done that right when I got it.

Full tuneup (easy since you have a 2000 lol)

plugs
wires (I personally recommend COPPER plugs of the stock heat range, but who am i?)
air filter
fuel filter
PCV valve
run fuel system cleaner through your tank too.

and yeah, keep your foot out of it

FWIW, I got about 25 mixed city/highway with my V6, about 22 all city and 33 all highway.

20MPG Max city for the last 2 years. When I drive in the city, i always keep the torque converter locked at around 46-50 and i never floor it past 2000 rpm. I have a 96 auto with 33k miles, bg 44k about 5k miles ago, plugs, fuel filter, tires about 4 months ago.

One more of these moronic posts and you're done...

....since I don't feel like making another reply...
Platinum plugs are the real reason for the 100,000 miles tuneup. coppers cost what, 1/4 of a platinum, and need to be replaced what, 36k-50k miles?

They also run cooler in the same heat range, which is good because a lot of the 3.8's have an almost too hot combustion chamber, which leads to knock retard... not good.

I personally have tried both, ran autotap logs on copper AND platinum plugs... I got 6-9 counts of knock at WOT at the top of every rpm range with Platinum, and 0-2 on copper...so...

...But yeah, one more of these outbursts and you're done.

release the ebrake!

a cool air intake and like the other guys said, a full tuneup would do you some good.

also make sure your converter isnt plugged and your vacuum lines are not restricted or dirty.

keeping it in drive will kill you mileage for those that dont pay attention. i always keep my car in OD and have for a long time. 164,000 miles and my tranny is still a kicken.

but yeah, keep your foot out of it.

My 96 auto was getting about 22-23 freeway and dropped to 20-21 when my work route changed to a canyon. I got the tie rod ends replaced and get 25-26 now. I will be replacing the ball joints in the near future, too. It's all about eliminating rolling resistance induced by the suspension.
