  • What mod should I get next?

    Hi everyone.

I have a 01 v6 camaro automatic. My question is what other mod should I get to for my car that give me good HP, but not to much on my wallet.

Here is my current mod list.

2.5 flowmaster exhaust system, 3" car sound cat, K&N fuel injection kit, K&N oil filter, 10-30 royal purple oil, ngk iridium spark plug, Msd super conducted wires, stock 3.42 gear, and coming soon a hypertec programmer.

    Thanks

Get a good Camshaft $299 from CompCams (Extreme Energy SerieS) not sure about the part # but someone here will know , plus if you CAMM it it will make it sound even more PISSED OFF then just the exhaust alone ! with a good cam you should be able to squeeze 20 ponies out and install time is maybe 2 hours

If you get like the HANES manual for the FBODY ($20 or so) it shows ya how to :) not that hard i did my first cam job when i was 16 and didnt know much about cars lol so you can handle it just read carefully , do as it says , ALWAYS replace CAM Bearings , Always Lube everything as described and use the right tools thats all thats to it

Do I need to remove the engine from the car to replace the cam?

No you shouldn't HAVE to . But i would take it out (Cherry Picker) and make sure everything else is good all bearings cyl walls , pistons , i mean if you are going to work on it why not spend an hour or 2 to make sure the rest of the engine isn't 100% :P right ?!

dont get a Haynes, get a chiltons or helms (but helms might be way too expensive)

no you dont have to pull the engine

Re: What mod should I get next?

I'd go with a freshened up top end. Cam, lifters, rods, springs, and some head work.

Dam that sound super expensive man, but it sounds logical. If I'm going to change the cam I should just go for it all. I could look at the price like around $2,500 for everything.

                          Shouldnt cost ya $2500

All new Bearings $120 (All 3 sets)
                          Cam $300
                          Lifters $150
                          Rods $100
                          Springs $100
                          Extras (Sealant , Lube , ETC) $50

so maybe more around 1000-1200 should get ya going

2,500 if you're getting it installed a shop maybe. Those estimates of 1000-1200 are fair, i'd be prepared with 1500 in case you find something you want to freshen up while you're in there. I dunno how much a machine shop would charge ya to do head work though.

                            BTW...F the Sox! lol

It sound like Nitrous is a better investment for now or just save some more money and get a supercharger.
