• What mods can I do now for a noticable improvement?

I have a 97 RS vert. So far I have a borla catback running fully open, CAI, Aluminum driveshaft. BMR STB, 160 Thermostat. I plan on getting BMR SFC's soon also. I think that's it for now. I want to swap in an LT1 maybe next winter, so I don't want to spend a fortune on my 3.8. I don't really know anything about cams, and bored out. What else can I do? How do shift kits work? I know there's no chip for a 97. Any ideas or info would be great. Thank you.

It looks like you've got most of the affordable stuff taken care of. I'd probably wait til you your LT1.

Nitrous. You can carry it over to the lt1 easily. And play and learn with it until then. But be warned, you may get hooked on it...

Gears/LSD, rear suspension upgrades. I am guessing you have an auto from your ?shift kit? question so yeah a shift kit/higher stall converter. Skinnies up front and big sticky tires out back. The most noticeable gain would probably come from nitrous as was already mentioned. All of the above can be carried over to the V8 transplant.

From what I understand our chips are prom chips so they could be reprogrammed is it worth it?

Shift kits will hold a gear a little longer and allow for a firmer shift. I have heard about the Trans go kit that will hold a gear until you manually shift it. I have a 5spd so I don?t know much about it, but a guy got flamed pretty good for asking about a shift kit that turned his auto into a standard, I think it was the Trans go kit.
I have made a lot of money in my life, most of which I spent on cars and women.<p>The rest I have blown.

I rarely post to this board as I am not a qualified mechanic, jsut like to drive fast. I am in much the same boat as you are except I am going to build up the 3.8. I have a new transmission in it,eagles, plugs and wires. The biggest and most noticeable improvement that I did was getting a K&N filter for it. The performance improvement was immediate. The filter is on the pricey side of things 40-50 dollars but you will never have to buy another air filter again.

You should be happy with your 3.8L untill you get a LS1, because driving a 3.4 like me, I wish I had the 3.8L

I have nothing against my v6, it's just i never had what most people would call a performance camaro. My first one was an 89 rs 2.8. My second was a 91 rs vert 5.0 tbi, and now my 97 rs vert 3.8. I just would like to know what it would be like to have a z28 motor/setup. Thanks for the info guys. I was trying to keep things too where i can swap them over with the lt1 like my exhaust driveshaft and so on. I guess i'll just wait til i can find a decent lt1 wrecked camaro.
