  • I had to reboot my car!

    Well, got done with Evolution school, and we're off to enjoy happy hour and dinner. Pull up, park, wander inside. Five minutes later I'm back out, to hopefully find my new exhaust leak to see how bad it got over the course of the day.

    Turn key, no crank. Battery reads nothing.

    Then the car starts acting like it's possessed. The gauges all flip back and forth a few times. I hear a rapid fire clicking coming from the engine compartment, and the alarm light in the dash is going crazy too. Keeps going on even after I pull the key and get out. Only stops if I try to turn on the headlights, in which case everything goes dead.

    I pull the batt cable off, hook it back up, and car starts fine. Does the F-body run Windows? :rolleyes:

    This is the second time I've had this happen in 3 weeks. Battery tests out great, nothing loose, no recent changes to the electrical system, I'm stumped. Any ideas?

    That used to happen to me as well. It only seemed to happen when it was really cold outside. I was stumped for the longest time. I used to just get out and wiggle the battery cables when it happened. It would usually go away.

    I found out what it was about 2 weeks ago. The electrical connections leading into your computer are corroded. I took mine off and cleaned them with carb cleaner. I put dielectric grease on them and reinstalled them. No problems since.

      Interesting, the injector harness on my car has been having fits almost similar, clicking & shyt even w/the ignition off. Stops when the harness pulled from the relay, but both the injector relay & a/c relay (same kind of relay on my car) are in good working. Maybe I'll replace it & see. I just figured it was more damage due to the fire. :(
