  • removing fuel rail from 3.8

im pulling my upper intake soon to replace a gasket.

when pulling the fuel rail, do the injectors come out with it, or are you supposed to disconnect them beforehand?

also, do you need to disconnect the lines from the fuel rail, or is it ok to leave them connected?

Re: removing fuel rail from 3.8

I just leave everything connected and rip the whole unit out.
Its just 4x- 10mm bolts that hold the fuel injectors & rail on.
You need a hex key wrench to remove the MAP first!
Oh, and you're probably gonna wanna take the injectors off
so you can clean them. Assuming you can take your injectors apart to clean
them. On my 2002, I cant get the injectors apart!! dam

      thanks.

is there anything bad about leaving the fuel lines connected to the fuell rail? i know you need a special tool to disconnect the lines, and i dont have one.

how would one go about cleaning out the fuel injectors. ive never handled them, so i'm not familiar.

if you can leave the lines hooked up and move the whole unit to the side that would be best. the injectors can stay connected to the rail

          ask Bobby
yes, there is one thing bad about leaving the lines/rail connected. Is that its so dam big and gets in the way of everything ;)
You MIGHT break a o-ring if you remove the injectors but a pack of 6 o-rings is only $3.99

i removed my fuel rail, then pulled my injectors one by one, i guess it really doesnt make a diffrence. I would recommend buying the tool to remove the fuel lines, i bought a nice one, and it was only like 4 dollars. Like slow6 said, go ahead and install new orings!

What does this tool look like? Or what is it called.

I went to Autozone today and asked them for a tool that removed fuel lines from the rail and they gave me the tool that removes them from the tank. (I knew I should have checked the box before leaving).

I went back up there and asked them about a different kind of tool and they seemed to be clueless on the entire thing.

Edit:I think I'm looking for something doesn't even exist. Is it the same tool that can be used to remove the fuel lines from the fuel filter? Or is it a completely different tool?
