I did a !a/c and just use the vent. I never even ever used the a/c anyways.
Well, it was turned on like 4 times since I bought the car new in 2001. Porsches come stock with no a/c, but thats another story

Re: think of takeing out a/c

The weight savings to it are so small I wouldn't do it unelss going all the way, and it doesn't cost you anything over .1 hp on the weight of the free wheel when its not being used.

I thought about taking mine out because I have t-tops and I live in Minnesota, but then figured it doesn't weigh that much and the free moving wheel isn't robbing me of power.

it may not be a rotating mass hp drainer. But it does take off weight on the front end. Yes, some of us actually have problems gettting traction off the line, so it helps with our hole shots.

Not even close to 30 pounds. If you are doing it for weight reduction you better be taking out your floor mats and ash tray lid too because it will be that little of a difference. You also will not be gaining any power, your compressor shuts off at WOT. Basicly all you would be doing is drastically reducing the resale value of your car.

I couldn't sell mine, and it has a Salvage title anyways.. *cries* Like I give a damn, I'm in it for the build! If I wanted money I would be dealing in mid 90's family cars, grand ams and such fixing dumb problems and reselling them.

But I don't know how much it weighs I do know that when you are going all out that every ounce matters, just wanted to make sure someone wasn't making a mistake just because they didn't use it.

                          Just FYI-

When people do go all out on weight removal, there isn't an ash tray anyways :) or even a dash for that matter.

i like the drivetrain/powertrain mods that make for lighter weight like that aluminum driveshaft and the aluminum rockers, those help alot. Maybe some 2000 corvette rims?
