  • Keep 3.4 or go 4.3?

My little brother has a 4.3 out of a Jimmy, and I was thinking it would make a bit more power than my 3.4... Originally I was planning on rebuilding the 3.4 but his 4.3 was rebuilt about 5k miles ago... How much work would this engine be to put in, I know computer would have to be switched, but other than that, tranny hook up? I have an auto in a '95.

If I'm wrong on this I want to be corrected. You will need the transmission from the Jimmy. You will probably have to get the mounts from the 4.3 as well. I've heard its more work than its worth. I personally wouldn't put a truck engine in an F-body

Ya I figured I would need the mounts.. The transmission should hookup, probably need a new flexplate and torque convertor though.

For the work of either a 4.3L v6 or the Baby LT1 4.3L, just do the work to make an aluminum headed 3.4L....

You'd make work of either a stock 3.8L or a 4.3L v6, both of which have power sapping balance shafts.

Russell, the guy in the thread with the dyno graphs, did quite okay for himself.
