• LS6 conversion

I was wondering if an LS6 conversion would be possible to do? Would it be harder than a LS1 conversion, what would I need to do this becides motor, and tranny. I have this wild dream of being able to say to my friends "yea its still a 6... an LS6" that and having 400hp would be nice to.

The only difference is the block...everything else is the same as the LS1. Some LS6's were dropped into 01 and 02 Z28s from the factory.

Umm wrong.... The LS-6 heads are different, the cam is different, the intake is different. The some 2001 and all 2002 cars had LS-6 blocks and intakes, but the LS-1 cam etc. You would want to use an F-body oil pan, and probably an LS-1 F-body harness and ECM and have it programmed.

They still work with the LS1 heads...the LS6 heads have a smaller combustion chamber which increases the CR. This is good...but they are more expensive.

But there are really no differences in a swap between and LS1 and a LS6.

Other than the oil pan, and other differences. If you get the engine off a wrecked Z06 you'd be better off converting back to a mechanical throttle like on an LS-1 F-body. Corvettes are drive by wire..

well my grand dad owns a auto-body shop and knows where there is a Z06 hit hard in the rear end. I haven't talk to the man that owns it I just hope that he doesn't know what he has. the vette is to far gone for a repar but great for a motor swap I hope.

There is an 02 SS out there that is totaly destroyed would that be a better option and just change out the heads and cam to "make a LS6"?

yeah the 02 ss would be a better choice imo, and it would NOT be worth it to try to make it an "ls6" there are minimal gains, if my memory serves me right, the only difference is the cam(borrowed from the truck ls motors), the heads(again to up the cr by a few 1/10s of a point) and the intake... now what people think that z28's/ta's came with an "ls6" motor, are wrong, it came with basically an "ls6" intake with no egr(i beleive they got rid of that crap in 00 or 01). as far as changing out heads/cam to make it an "ls6" you'd be better off buying a set of 5.3L truck heads, and a mild cam like the LS1 hotcam(i forget the specs but u can look it up)... you'd make more power with that setup and it would sound better, but it just depends on what you want...

i think all of thats correct if not please by all means correct me... lata
