Any bright ideas on how to get it off? The haynes says not to seperate the balancer from the pulley but I dont really know how. ;) It says to clamp the flywheel somehow or put a large screw driver through the gear teeth to keep the crank from turning. I've bent a large screwdriver and a wrench so far. Its like over 200 ft/lbs of torque I think.

Re: harmonic balancer
Unless you have the recommended tool to lock the ring gear, it's a two man job.
I use a 1/2 in drive socket and johnson bar. Put that on the harmonic balancer bolt then put a 5 foot pipe over the johnson bar to extend it.
Then get a someone to jamb and hold a large pry bar in the teeth of the ring gear.
Pull on the extension bar like a madman. Buddy pushes as hard as possible on the pry bar trying to keep it engaged in the ring gear teeth.
This has always worked for me.Now Playing: \'99 Pewter Firebird, stock, bone stock, and nothing but stock, so help me God!
Comming attractions: K&N Filter, Lid Mod, Intake Bellows Smooth Pipe Mod.
I dream about: Forced Induction (TC or SC) or NOX (or both!)

Re: harmonic balancer
I sat my fat 200 lb *** on my 25" torque wrench so it is definately way over 200 ft/lbs.. still trying to figure it out

Re: harmonic balancer
A Johnson bar can also be called a flex handle. It is a tool like a rachet except instead of a ratchet mechanism on the one end it has a square drive (that engages the socket of your choice) and that square drive pivots on a pin. Johnson bars or flex handles are available in 1/4, 3/8, 1/2, 3/4 and 1 inch square drive sizes. If you put a flex handle beside the same size drive ratchet the flex handle is longer, thus can exert more force on the nuts/bolts that you are working on. Also because the drive end where the socket is installed is much smaller than a ratchet and you can get into tight places better. Now Playing: \'99 Pewter Firebird, stock, bone stock, and nothing but stock, so help me God!
Comming attractions: K&N Filter, Lid Mod, Intake Bellows Smooth Pipe Mod.
I dream about: Forced Induction (TC or SC) or NOX (or both!)
