    well heres the scoop... i drive a 98 camaro v6 3.8L engine.. 87,xxx miles....

today im driving my car and it starts to back fire so im like hmm maybe bad gas.. so im driving all day and i start to notice my temp gauge go up to 240ish then back down to 180 and back up and on and on.... the car smells really bad and takes off terrible and just back fires all the way down the road.

the check engine light went off, took it to autozone and they said the code was back firing which i knew that....

anyone have any ideas what it could be?

are you sure they didnt say misfiring? check your vacuum line going into your throttle body just for kicks, then check all your plug wires

check/replace spark plugs if you haven't at that mileage. If there is still a misfire it could be a coil pack bad.

240F ++ is dangerous. thats how I blew my piston rings and head gasket.
have you checked your coolant? I dont want to tell you to check it, because you might not know how to bleed the air out correctly.
Check the oil when you replace it. You dont want it looking like yogurt/milk shake.

With those temp fluctuations, it might be possible to warp something, but I'm not sure on that!

yes thats why im worried when it hits those temps...

i did check the coolant and bleed the line,,, i might try changing my oil.. and the next step is spark plugs and wires

              Re: Running problems

plugs and wires next. you might have an oil or coolent problem with such a high temp, but you need to do plugs and wires first to get the car running to see.
