  • Swapping 3.4 for 2.8????

    Hello All,
New guy here. Looks like a good forum. :)

I'm actually making my first post here for a friend. He has a '95 Firebird w/3.4 auto. The 3.4 is worn out (rattling, low oil pressure, overheating) and he has a wrecked Chevy S10 pickup with a 2.8 V6 and only 45,000 miles on it. I think it's an early 90's model. We were wondering if the 2.8 is a direct-fit or easy swap to make???

Since it's free and he doesn't have any other use for it, it seemed like a good option.

    Thanks for any help!!

i helped one of my friends do a 2.8 to a 3.4 swap in his s-dime. it would be a direct bolt on transmisstion wise for sure. the motor mouts matched up in the s-10 so i dont see why it wouldnt be the reverse also. i really dont see any reason why it wouldnt work. prolly wouldnt be my frist choice for a swap thought. he could prolly find a realativly cheap 3.8 around and end up being much happier in the long run. not only more powerful, but u dont get much more reliabity out of any other engine. but as for u orginal post it should work.

if he's flat broke go ahead, but it would suck to downgrade the slowest 4g camaro, expect mpg to go down too, when you do it, swap all the topend stuff off the camaro engine obviously

Thanks for the responses. Yea, he's a little low on funds right now so the cheapest way out is the best. He intends to rebuild the 3.4 and put it back in later but this should give him some time to build it.

        Thanks!
