  • Cutting a hole through the trunk...

I have to replace my sending unit (gas gauge is not giving correct reading)
I can't seem to find any place other then the dealer for the part, and the part is 650$CND from the dealer. and on top of that, labor would be a goo 4-5 hours apperently, to get to the gas tank, (drop the dif, exhaust, etc). My friend told me that alot of F-body owners, when they had that problem, just cut open a hole in the trunk to get ot the gas tank. and then seal the hole back up. In theory, it could save me lots of $$ on labor.
You think this is a good idea? has anyone done this or know anyone that has?

if you know the part number you can try gmpartsdirect.com, they usuall have a much better price than the dealership

when I put in my walbro high flow pump I did it by cutting the trunk and dropping it in. A lot easier than dropping the whole rear
