  • Injector Cleaning Problems...Help!

Alright, I decided to clean the injectors on my 2000 3.8L the other day, and ran into some trouble. I took off the MAP sensor, removed the bolts for the fuel rail, released some pressure from the schrader valve, lifted out the fuel rail, and of course all of the injectors came with it. I took off the metal fastening clip for the first injector, and tried to remove it...couldn't get it off! I tried for about 15 minutes, to no avail. In an attempt to get the fuel rail out to try again, I messed with the clamps for the fuel lines, but decided I'd better not, and clamped them shut again. I ended up giving up after that, and put everything back together. When I started the car later, I now seem to have a whisling noise coming from somewhere, but I cant seem to find out what it is. Sounds like pressure of some kind leaking from somewhere (like a steam kettle whistling almost). The car runs just as before, but the noise is disconcerting. I'm trying to solve a little bit of a rough idle, and have already changed plugs, wires, and fuel filter (havent thrown any codes at all yet :) )...What do you guys think? What could the noise be, and should I have given up on that injector, or was I doing something wrong?

Sounds like you have a leak between the intake and one of the injectors. Check the o-rings.

i've taken those clamps off lots of times. Its just hard to do. Try moving the whole fuel rail so you can have easier access to the injectors. There is a tool for removing those fuel rail hose clamps, but you have to use that tool (its like 2 or 3 dollas).
I would agree that you might have a broken o-ring, I've broken one before. They are like $4 for 6 of them from Oreilly's.
You are supposed to use new o-rings everytime you take the injectors out.
You have a 2000. So, just like me (2002) you probably have 1 piece injectors. Which, I think it is impossible to take an injector apart!
So what was your plan on cleaning the injectors? cause, you cant take it apart.

Vacume lines are good, think you guys are right about the o-rings, and I already had a set. Problem was, even after taking off the clips for the injectors, I STILL couldn't get 'em off. I think I'll try again, anybody know wht that tool for the fuel line is called or where i can find one? autozone didnt seem to have a clue what i was talking about. I was going to take them off and see if I couldnt get them to open up with a 12volt, I heard that works then just shoot some cleaner through them and clean the outside with a q-tip...any pointers on how to do the thing with a 12V battery would really help! after i figure this **** out, i think this site could use a good step by step for injector cleaning, theres alot of questions on here...
