• Need Help! Bud's car broke

My friend Chris has a 95 Ford Taurus w/ 3.0 V6, automatic. He is having some problems. He said his cat is messed up, making a rattling sound.

Well tonight, he car took a poo :( He can only go ~30 MPH when he floored it, and his SES light came on and off during the ride.

I am guessing it's a misfire that caused the cat to get messed up (his exhaust smells terrible), but can anyone give some suggestions? Thanks

He will have to replace the cat, no doubt. But do you think that the symptoms add up to a misfire that is causing the cat to get ****ed up? The car has ~50K on it.

Please post a response if you get this car diagnosed. I had the exact same thing happen a year ago, replaced the cat and now I am right back to square one with cat rattling in muffler. I get laid-off on Friday so I'll be trying to diagnose the car next week. Maybe if you find the problem it will be same as mine or vice versa.

Oh I should add I replaced all my plugs and wires and didn't have any misfires causing my problem.

Mine is caused by the engine running too rich (possibly too lean although I doubt it). I replaced my oxygen sensors and had the timing checked so I'm not sure what else will cause the car to run rich. I hope to find out soon because I really don't want to replace my cat three times.
