  • Spark Kutting out

    Hello,

The other night, I was driving home and all of a sudden, the engine started to idle really rough esp when accelerating. I couldn't go any faster than 70 mph on the hwy....after about 15 mins of this the "Service Engine Soon" light came on.

Since the car is a 2002 V6 and only has 27K on it, I wouldn't think I would need to replace wires, etc.... So, I replaced the plugs (which didn't look too bad), but I still have the problem. The plug wires will go next....then the ignition controller??

I'm wondering if anyone has had this happen to them and what it ended up being?

    Thanks, Bob

was the light flashing, if not you shouldnt have an ignition problem

you should have the code read before you start throwing money at the problem.

        Re: Spark Kutting out

Thanks for your responses! Note that the engine light wasn't originally flashing and hasn't come back on since the new plugs were installed...haven't driven far tho.

Since I still have the issue (grrrrrrr), I took it to my local garage (these guys are good) and they checked the codes then checked the coil packs...they now think that it is the Ignition Control Module. The good thing is that since the ICMs are fairly common in the GM products, he told me that if it didn't fix the situation, he would pull it out and not charge me.

        Will letcha know...

Re: Spark Kutting out - RESOLVED!!

The issue ended up being a bad coil pack (there are three)...only about $75.

The way to test was to move the coil packs around and test to see which cylinders were misfiring....if the misfiring moves with the pack..then you got it. Note that the coil packs all Ohm'ed out correctly...so it didn't seem like that could be the problem.

          runs great now!

          Thanks for all the help!
