The AirHogs are around the same price here and Fram's site says: "Do NOT saturate the filter with oil – it could be harmful to the vehicle’s air induction system."
id stick with a paper filter, but thats just the way i am. and dont flush the transmission. buy a transmission kit "filter and gasket" drop the pan, change the filter, and refill with fresh fluid. If you still want to get more of the oil fluid out, run the car a few miles, stick a small tube down dipstick hole, and you can pump out about 2 or 3 more quarts and the refill with fresh atf.

run the transmission without any oil or an oil pan???????
no, he is talking about running the tranny with fresh oil to pick up more crap left in it after service, than pull that oil out and again but fresh oil in it.

Assuming you mean a stock replacement, I bought a K&N for the Impala and a Air Hogs for the Camaro. The Air Hogs did not require an adapter gasket shim to make it fit right unlike the K&N that required one (but included it in the package). Filter media looks similar, other than the color. I would say it comes down to whether you like orange or red better.
Don't forget the tune up (plugs and wires) plus use 10w30 and if the mileage is 80k plus i wouldn't use synthetic because it can make your car run worse.
