• Two Words.......I'm being screwed!!!!

I had to take my car to the shop this last tuesday. So now i am driving my parents ghetto van. So i get a call from my dad on wednesday. The mechanic called and said that i needed a new feul pressure regulator because it was putting out 42lbs when it's supposed to put out at least 48. So he got that fixed and continued the diagnostic today. My dad just called me. He said that i need to have all of my injectors replaced. that includes taking off the fuel rail and everything. the injectors are $100 each. i need 6. i also need to replace my cat and my entire exhaust system. so it will come to a total of over $1000!!!! so i said....crap.

My quandry is this....do i say forget this car and just get a z28 or do i make the repairs and be broke for the next 3mos?

And to top it all off!?!?!?!?!!! MY ENGINE IS A stinkin BUICK!!!!

    Dern those stupid Chevy freaks.

Anyway, just had to let that steam off my chest. lemme know what you all think i should do....

    Your engine is a buick?
Why replace the whole exhaust? Isn't the cat the problem?

I don't know whether to laugh or cry. Dude, you are being ripped off.

Fuel pressure reg-it may or not be a problem, I would like to know his troubleshooting process in determining it was faulty.

Injectors-I call BS. All six are not going to go out at once. What is wrong with them? And Injectors should not cost $100 each. Heck, aftermarket lucas injectors run half that!

Cat- It could be faulty, but by now, I am thinking he is just trying to rip you off.

Yeah, it is a buick developed engine. Doesn't really mean crap. Ever heard of a Grand National, it isn't that bad.

I would tell him to put everything back like you brought it in and bring it somewhere else. That place is just trying to rip you off!

Well awhile back i had to replace the muffler on my car because there was a hole in the bottom of it and the pipe fell off. He said that the reason that did that was because of all the misfires that were going on. He also said that the cat is bad on my car because of that. therefore i might need to replace the muffler and pipes and everything just to be safe.

as for the injectors, i don't know why they said they cost that much. I called the dealer up here and they said that they cost 14.95 each?? And Autozone said they cost 89.99???. Maybe Autozone was quoting the price for the set???? Who knows.....

anyway, i've got dad on the case so we should figure out something here pretty soon.

umm....i'm stupid. the dealer said $114.95. not 14.95. dad checked o'reilly's here in town and they said they could get borg-warner injectors for 69.95 each. Yipe. Alot better than 100 bucks i guess. :(

          (Just checked...injector = $65 for AC Delco)

I ordered a set of accel's from summitracing for $173.

They mostly list sets of 8, but you can get a set of 6. Change the 8 in the part number to a 6.

They send you the 8 pack with two empty...

Dude, this is why we all try and work on our cars ourselves. He's ripping you really bad. Just like how Jiffy Lube says you need the fuel injector $50 service every time you visit, so your mechanic is telling you you need to replace the whole fuel system for $1000. Next it'll be your brakes for $800.

Personally, I'd stick with the $1.99 every 3,000 miles fuel additive, and doing the rest mySELF!

you could probably get a stock exhaust system for pretty d@mn cheap. just post in the wtb section, i'm sure you could find something for cheap. do you post on 417muscle.com or mofba.net? you could try there as well. might not even have to pay shipping. good luck man

                    Dude:

Did he kiss you before he f###ed you? Sounds like you need a BIG tube of KY. All six injectors bad at the same time? Damn, you musta run some glue through your gas tank. Me thinks it's time to break out the wrenches and getting a little dirty. Nuthin like turning a wrench to give you that manly man feeling. Tell the mick e nick to put it back together, get yourself a Haynes or Chiltons, stop by Autozone and/or your local parts store and jump right in, the water's fine. Must be a Chebby dealership looking to make this months quota on your checkbook. Tell them to stick the injectors where their intake is and do it yourself (I betcha you don't need to change all six injectors, either).

actually, my dad is a mechanic, but he doesn't "have the tools" to be able to do this work. That and he really doesn't have a whole lot of time to do it anyway, so we took it to a place here in town to get it done. They seem to know what they are talking about according to dad. so i guess i'll just have to trust em.

also as for the exhaust. i'd rather not go stock. i think if i do anything, i am gonna just stick with what i got for now on the exhaust and save up a bit to get a good exhaust system.

So yeah, i might be gettin ripped, yet i might not, i dunno at this point. i'll find out when i get my car back. Thanks for all your opinions and help.

I wouldn't think 6 lbs of lost fuel pressure would cause a major problem anyhow.

mabey I missed it somewhere but what was the original problem that you took the car into the shop for? has the dude checked the fuel filter to find out if that is where the trouble is with the fuel pressure? just a thought.

you ARE getting raped. it's a fact.

Car is supposed to be at 42lbs in idle, 50 in park. Your regulator did not go bad, if your fuel pressure is low your fuel pump went bad.

I repeat, yes you ARE getting raped.. DEMAND all your money back and your stock parts back.. take it elsewhere.. They are ripping you off..

Whats the problem with the car anyway?

do not let them replace all your injecters... it's nearly impossible for ALL to go out at the same time...
exhaust is nothing really... but i don't see why the ENTIRE system needs to be replaced... you can easily replace the cat w/ a new one, leaving the old exhaust system on there... (anyways, they are going to charge you to pay for and put on a STOCK exhuast system, you'd be better off waiting a little bit til u get some extra dough and get an aftermarket)

what is the exact problem u were having anyways???

(well, atleast [if u do everything they want done] the hole in your wallet will be huge, almost as big as the one in your A$$)
