  • Dyno results...WTF???

I wasnt sure where to post this thread, but Gen Tech sounded right. Moderators, please move it if I am wrong.

Spent 7.5 hours tuning my car at the dyno shop today on a Mustang Dyno. My car only did 147.0 rwhp @ 4900 rpm as a baseline and 158.7rwhp @ 5000 rpm with major tuning. That is SAE corrected too. He multiplied 158.7 by 1.3 which turns out to be 206.3 flywheel horsepower (FYI, those are N/A runs. I didnt get any nitrous runs, but thats a different problem).

Sounds good right? Well I have CAI, Pacesetter headers, 3" Catco cat and 3" Flowmaster exhaust. Wow I gained a whopping 6.3 hp from all those mods!!

I dont know why it is so low. Any ideas? I am guessing compression loss, but I wont know that until Saturday. My dad has the tools to do it, but I wont have time to check it out till then.

    The dyno sheet is below.

Sounds about right for those mods. I put down 149rwhp/167rwtq with my old 99 Camaro..but it had a 2800 stall that also sucked some power out of it.

That can't be right. You only gained 6.3hp with all those mods?!?!?! I swear i have read somewhere in this website that with the headers back you gain 15-20hp and that was supposedly was dyno checked. Plus the CAI should have definetly made you hit those numbers i would have thought. That kinda brings down my hopes because thats alot of money for such a little amount of hp.

mustang dynos are always less. find a dynojet and i garuantee it'll be higher. and superbird420- the most you'll see out of headers on a v6 will be 10-15 hp at the highest.

on a dyno jet id say you be in the ball park of 180-190rwhp.

ive never really been a fan of mustang dynos..

                Everything he said is correct.
A mustang dyno will dyno much lower.

Mid 180's is where I would figure you on a dynojet.
Headers have been dyno proven to add 10 rwhp on a completely stock car with stock tune.

i think they guy is a little optimistic with his x1.3 method, i seriously doubt your trans was pulling 25% power, but maybe

                        Re: Dyno results...WTF???

on Fullthrottlev6.com someone not too long ago threw pacesetter headers on his stock 98 camaro and had it dynoed...he gained atleast 10 RWHP from just the headers. So you figure when your system is flowing better (with an intake and catback exhaust) you should be adding around 20 RWHP then a nice tune ontop of that should give you some nice N/A dyno results. Get to a dynojet you will be happy...i hear bad things about mustang dynos anyways

                          Re: Dyno results...WTF???

The thing is that the tuner is the best tuner around. EVERYONE of everyone takes their race car to this guy cuz he does really, really good work. It just sucks he has a Mustang dyno instead of a Dynojet.

I think there is another shop about 45 mins from here that has a Dynojet so I will check them out. There are 4 shops with dynos in eastern Nebraska, 3 of them have Mustang dynos!!
