to start it off, im going to be doing a project with my geo tracker. the stock 80hp 1.6l pulls out civic's and pick ups, but its just not enough. im going to try and stuff a 3800 in it. there is a lot of room in my engine bay, but i will have the remove the 4wd, cut off some stuff, etc. to make it fit. now i have a few questions
how are the accessories mounted? are they nearly flush with the engine, or do they stick out far on the side or front? is it a serpantine belt, or a single belt for each accessory?
what are the engine dimensions? i dont want to cut my fenders because they support the struts. but if i have to, i will. i know i have to do a lot of custom fab work to make it fit.
what type of radiator should i get? its going to have to be small and thin but effecient. how many cores should i look for (i think thats what its called)?
are there any replacement wiring systems for the engine other than from gm?
how strong is the rear end? ive heard after about 300hp, they tend to grenade if launched hard. i was going to weld the gear to make it a solid axle so it doesnt unload onto 1 tire.
what im going to do is try and find a wrecked car at the junkyard (preferibly roll over, side, or rear impact) and just buy the entire car so i get the tranny, axle, engine, computer, wiring, etc. is there anyway this engine can be carburated so i dont need a computer, or should i just keep it the way it is and wire the computer seperatly from my wiring harness so i can control my lights and such?
im figuring, 200 hp in a 2200 pound car should be able to beat fox body mustangs, and keep up with lsi's camaro's. also, if this project works out, i was going to build up the engine. does anyone sell high performance rebuilds? im looking to do everything, crank, heads, cams, rods, low compression pistons, valves, supercharger. my goal is 400 hp thats still streetable. thats 1 hp per 5.5 pounds if anyone wants to do the math. a 5.0 mustang's power to weight ratio is about 1 hp per 11 pounds, stock.
