• LT1 with blown head gasket

This was posted on an LS1 board for this area.

<b>This car has a blown Head gasket[/b] car still runs and drives but needs a new head gasket.

Interior is excellent no major blemish's and looks great for a 96. Interior is Black Leather

Exterior is nice a little paint is rubbed off the nose which is typical for these cars

Car is bone stock except for a drop in K&N filter

Tranny is good and shifts smooth

Tires are good and it has polished wheels.

He wants $4500. He's in Southern California, and I'm in Northern California. Would it be safe to drive it with the bad head gasket up to 650 miles depending where he is? I probably won't be able to get it being that I still don't know if I'll have a job after this month, but there's a small chance.

I wouldn't drive any car with a blown head gasket 650 miles. Especially an LT1 lol. Just have it fixed somewhere around there then drive it back up...or you can have it towed...eek I don't even want to think of what the cost would be lol.

Can't you just rent one of those small two-wheel car trailers from U-Haul?

That's what I did when I picked up the Z. Worked out great, the trailers are easy to pull, they are made very well. I pulled the Z back with my 89 S-10. Needless to say it looked like the truck was trying to raise the front tires off the ground. Even someone who has never pulled a tailer can pull one of the U-Haul ones with very little trouble.

I could drive down with our 86 Silverado and rent a trailer, but I wouldn't want to risk having two broken cars a long distance from home. Our Trailblazer could do it, but by the time I paid for gas and a trailer rental it would probably cost as much as the $200 round trip plane ticket. The round trip is cheaper than one way, so at least I could fly home if the car sucked and only be out a couple hundred dollars.

Oh yeah, 55 mph speed limit in California no matter what when you're towing a trailer, and the normal limit on I5 is 70. I did the 55-60 mph thing coming back from Southern California to break in my car, and I don't have any desire to do it again.
