97 is a one owner car but PO didnt do the dexcool swap
at 5 yrs. Car only has 50 K but dexcool looks like mud.
No Dexcool Flames as I will replace with it again, never had any problems
with any other GMs and Dexcool.
What will safely remove the slime?
Again dont try and change my mind on Dexcool. Also I dont wait for 5 years to swap it out anyway.
hmm.... I know GM makes stuff to flush the system with but i'm sure an auto parts store would too. I would just undo the hoses from the radiator and flush that seperatly first. with or without the flush product. i would do a lot of water from your water hose, maybe even warm water until it looks good. Then hook everything back up except not into the radiator and flush it again through out the engine. don't forget to run the heater so it will go through the heater core.
what he said^^^^^, the auto parts flush chemical did not work for me, so i just recommend using water.

yes, i flushed and flushed, even changed my radiator. I STILL FIND SLIM AND MUD. I took my cap off and did some experimenting. The only thing that will remove the mud and slim is gas and carbcleaner. This might sound like a bad idea, but you may want to remove the tstat, and on a COLD ENGINE, mix like 2 gallons of carb cleaner into the radiator and run the engine for a minute, drain the cleaner, and keep flushing with water. Honistly, i dont think we will ever get it all out.

Honestly, i dont think we will ever get it all out.
I've changed out that dexcrap over two years ago and I still find bits of that sludge under the rad cap:rant:
I wish someone would invent something that would dissolve the buildup so it can be flushed out.
LOL, same here, but like i said, the only think that can do that is carbcleaner, but use at our own risk!

Hence my starting this topic.
Still looking for solutions.
In the old days we used to "clean" rust build up(quite common on old iron
engines) with some muratic acid diluted.
A triple flush of plain water was done before a refill with antifreeze.
Dont do this on todays engines!
call me crazy but might some plumbing clog remover like, well liquid plumber work. as long as you flush it all out it shouldnt harm the cooling system right? it would help to break up alot of the sludge and well "S- H- I- T-" in the cooling system. just a thought
do not put drain cleaner in your car, that is an acid and will start eating the metals as soon as you pour it in! Ask any plumber what they think about the drain openers and they will tell you. infact if you use a drain cleaner at home, and your drain does not clear and you call a plumber and you say oh by the way i tryed this drain o stuff, a lot of them we be really careful on the way they try to clear it then, such as they will NOT use their metal drain snakes.
