I was just curious if other 3.4L owners can answer these 3 questions for me:
1 - What weight oil you use
2 - Oil pressure at idle
3 - Oil pressure at WOT
Please, no 3.8L oil pressures!
It's a different motor! 3.4 only!
Thanks!
Well I don't know the oil pressure of a 3.4L but the oil pressure in my 3.8L is....

j/k ;) I always hated that when I had my 3.4L on this board
On my 3.4L after it heated up it was just below 3/4s, then woudl dip down to between 1/4 and half, and go up to jsut past 3/4... I used 10W30... no additives.
But as a warning I had some oil pressure problems when my oil was changed at dealership, and they put hte wrong oil filter on(my wrench woudl not fit it, it was too small)
Also my car read a bit lower, then my oil pressure sender went bad and was spraying out about a quart of oil every 70 miles onto my exhaust manifolds. I changed the sensor and it was back to what I initial said so I was getting wrong readings...
Well that is 2 people that say 3/4... about 60lbs of pressure...
I use 10w30 I think now, since it's warming up. Either 10w30 or 5w30. anyway..
When dead cold, mine is a hair above 40lbs (1/2 way)
When it warms up it's 1/4 way (20lbs) and when warm at WOT It's only half way :(
I have a video of somebody's 3.4L and at WOT his oil pressure gauge was all the way over at 80lbs! I just wanted to know if my car has low oil pressure..
Well I know it's not the oil/filter, my pressure has always been like this and I've always wondered if it was low or not.
I will have to check the sending unit when I'm down there and see if it's leaking.
I havn't changed my oil is almost 3 months and I just checked it a couple days ago, still full... so I know it's not using/leaking any but I will check the sending unit anyway.
i use 10w 40 in my 3.4, a mechanic told me that the stock oil pump isnt very good and 10w 40 is better for my engine, when i start my car cold the oil is at the line above half, when the engine is warm its in the middle... hope that helps

50-60 psi at 2,400rpm.
Ok that's it, I'm going to buy an V6-60* oil pump and tear it apart and see what makes it suck so bad.
I'm going to ebay after I post this.
This makes me want to build a stand alone oiling system for the TT's more than ever. Only if I had a pump that could pump the oil at the pressure and volume I need.

Originally posted by pontiac nino: BTW, whats that piece that connects the oil filter to the block for?
Its a part that attaches to the block, so you can attach your oi filter... I had heard people have cracked it and I believed I did too, whne I saw oil spraying from there... So I got a new one but when I got down there saw it was ok... just covered in oil... from sending unit...
THe sneding unit is a sensor, that connects into the part that goes from the engien block to the oil filter, and sneses the oil pressure, if its bad, it will tell you the wrong oilpressure... If its cracked it will spray oil out of it...
So far...
everybody has higher oil pressure than me. Sh*t.
My dad said it could be another sign the bottom end of my motor might be taking a sh*t on me :(
Yeah pontiac nino mine did that to me before, but only once. It was after I paid this shop to change my oil because I was at like 3500 miles and couldn't get home to change it, they told me they put in Castrol 20w50 like I asked and they put in some of the CHEAPEST, THINNEST oil ever! There was no way it was castrol, let alone 20w50. It looked like water... but with that cheap oil and sitting in LA traffic for an hour my oil pressure was dropping looooow... I changed my oil and it was fine though. If I put in 20w50 my pressure at idle is like 30lbs, but if I put in 10w30 its 20lbs.
I am more concerned with my oil pressure at WOT though... it's only 40lbs and everybody else says their is at 60 :(

That's me I think ;)
1. MaxLife 5w-30
2. When car is cold 70lbs, 75 warm
3. Off the gauge(80+ PSI)
