I had a similar problem with another car. A couple of months after buying it, the ODO and trip stopped working. I figured the used car dealership rolled back my Odo before I bought the car and they didn`t put the mechanism back together properly. Anyway...it bothered the hell out of me for about 6 months because it was constantly ticking...one day on the highway the ticking drove me so insane that I started smacking the dash as hard as I could and at the same time i pushed in the trip button. I managed to get whatever wasn`t working back on track and now both the ODO and the trip are working again...The only problem is now I have no clue what the real mileage is on the car. Probably about 10k more than it reads, not to mention how many more if the dealership rolled back the clock.
My advice is to smack your dash and push the trip button at the same time while you`re driving. I must have smacked it for like 5 minutes before I got it so if you`re parked you`ll never know if what you`re doing is working. Good luck with that!
2 things... i dunno bout the rolling odo's but i know with the electric ones the PCM stores the milage so you might find out that way. the other thing... you're lucky... nothing ever goes good for me when i start bashing things...
