so i was on my way to school and as i was pulling through corinth, ms my car started shaking horribly. at first i thought maybe it was the gas in the tank or something with the fuel system, but it kept getting worse and after i had pulled out of corinth it was still going so i started to think maybe it the transmission or something. i mean the entire car was shaking very badly. every time i accelerated the shifting seemed off. the exhaust sounded funny and i could hear some rumbling and stuff from the engine bay, directly below me, and from the exhaust. i made it to selmer and as i was leaving it stopped. anyone have any idea what this may be? i'm takin it to a shop to see if they can find anything wrong with it...but i wanna know the things i should expect. its a 1994 Camaro with 145,000 miles on it.

    Re: shaking

When did the car have its last tune up and what was changed? Did it have no power? Did the engine shake bad with the car in neutral? Does it only shake when stopped or only when your driving? Throw any codes? If it runs poorly while in park you know its most likely not a drivetrain problem and if it does I'm placing my money on a bad coil and or ignition module. If its a intermittent problem could be fuel related or a bad sensor. However it could be anything from ignition, fuel pump, clogged cat, clogged fuel filter, bad sensors, vaccum problem, problems in the drivetrain.

      Re: shaking

is it good at low speed/little acceleration but really bad under higher load? if so, it might be the cat. 145k miles and my car acted similar when i destroyed my cat. i wouldnt drive it again but for reference, if you suspect the cat, you should look at it as soon as you turn off the car if you've been driving for a bit. if its bad, it'll probably be glowing red hot.

usually shaking is caused by a misfire

          Re: shaking

shook the whole time for the most part. worse at higher rpm/speed/gear. i kinda thought maybe it was the cat but not sure. i had the car tuned up a few months ago and installed new plugs wires and ignition parts as well. not sure what the problem is yet but i'm goin to mechanic friday hopefully to see what the problem is.
