The problem is no one seems to have them, just a 180*.I think a few here said they had a 160* thermostat ,if any one knows where to get one please ring in.Also I know for LS1s they make a 170*,wonder do they make that temp for a late model 3.8?A 170* seems like a good compromise between the sock 195* & a 160*.

I got my 180* thermo from O'reilly autoparts. I don't believe 170 was an option in the computer. They had 195's, 180's, and 165's if I remember correctly.
Although any thermo with the right diameter would probably work. So if you find a 170 with the right diameter it would probably be ok (although double check that before taking my word for it because I am not 100% certain).SLP CAI, K&N, Whisper Lid, 180* thermo, manual fan switch, 3.42 gears, Auburn Pro LSD, Wester\'s PCM Tuning, TSP Rumbler, High Flow Cat. I did a search for an electric water pump for my '96 3800 and it included many debates about 160 vs stock 195 degree thermostats. Some posts mentioned to buy a 180* thermostat instead and drill 2 tiny holes on each side of the face and it's seemingly cheaper than buying the Hypertech #1009 part like I did but do what ya want Geocor. Here in CT, we just enjoyed a mid-June temperature record of 85 degrees and found my temp gauge floating past 210 easily in traffic. Time to change my DexCool sludged engine soon. Advance Auto sold me a 170* thermostat for my 91 Firebird, maybe theres a shop in your area that caters to your 170*-180* request.Black \'96 RS Camaro, 3.8 V6 Series II, M5, Stock 200 HP, 204K miles! Thanx to all who answered, noticed some places mentioned here don't carry 160* or 170* thermos.Yes here in NW indiana its been real hot for this time of year, temps like yours Alex in the mid 80s.For the spring & summer mos. would like to use a 160, or preferably a 170,but some vendors recomened a 180 so the PCM would'nt enrichen the fuel ,thus actually wasting gas, interesting. The winters here can be brutal,so the 195* factory stat would go in then.
I also raised this question of the 170 stat on the C5 Forum ,& most agree there it would be an excellant compromise between the factory 195 & the cool running 160.geocor
