the problem with a lot of do it yourself setups is if you forget to cut it off it will kill your battery. with the SLP kit the fans don't run when the key isn't in it. but if someone has a write up for one like the SLP one go for it.

Thats not neccesarily true.. i have left mine on overnight by accident and it didnt even affect the battery, she started perfectly.

Also, when the fan is on, HIGH, its pretty loud so when you get out of your car you usually hear it, and remember to shut it off.. Definatley better IMO then paying the 70 bucks for the SLP ($price?)

It's simple, and its a good write up and cheap.

What about getting push button switches that dont click on but you have to keep pressure on them for it to be on? anyone try something like that? itd kinda be an idiot proof way to prevent killing ur battery.

EDIT: looking at radioshack website its momentary switches im thinking of

also i take it your car will still turn it on automatically

Definatley not worth it, it's not like as soon as you push the button the fans come on and the temp drops right away... if your driving in traffic you definatley dont want to be holding a push button down.

i got it connected but it didnt work. i wrapped wires around the green and blue wires and hooked it up to the switch but nothing.

i got this switch im guessing it wasnt the right one

nope, you need a SPDT (single pole double throw) and you connect the wires on either side, then the middle one you must ground, you dont want the wires to go together, they are the independent fan speeds, you want to ground one or the other, lighted switches dont work with this http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...entPage=family this is what you need

with the motor off yes, but the key still has to be in the ignition. I know because I leave mine on all the time during the summer months.

They must have changed the wiring setup at some point because I have the SLP fan switch and mine will stay on if I walk away from the car with my keys.

i dont know if im just incompetent but it isnt working. i got an SPDT switch and i hooked it up one on high, ground in the middle, then one on low. Is it supposed to not go back and complete the circuit? also does it matter which part of the green and blue wire i have it wrapped around (ie before or after the connecter - even though i dont see how that would matter)

i do have it grounded where other wires were grounded so i dont think it would be that

maybe your poles are different, check and make sure which wire is where, maybe your ground is on one of the edges, not in the middle, it should be labeled, and it should be obvious, and there are other green and blue wires in that connector, make sure you have the right ones, they are right next to eachother

and what do you mean not go back, you can always check if you have the right wires just by grounding the wires not through the switch, just take one of the wires, and ground it, see if the fan comes on, the switch should be off in the middle, then it should go either way, one being high and the other being low

i got it. thanks a lot, i was trying to tell by the sound. but then my brother stuck his hand right next to it and felt it on and off as i switched it on and off. only worked when the car was on tho

I must have installed mine wrong or something because my key wasn't in the ignition and my battery went dead when I left the switch on.
