  • Help! Loss Of Power?

I'm cruizin' down the highway at 80-85mph, everything's fine. I stop at red light, and when I take off again, there's no power. It won't rev over about 3500.

    It's a stock '02 Camaro 3800 M5.
There's no SES light, and no DTC's on the scanner.
I changed the air and fuel filters, just because they were a year old, but that didn't help any.

    Any ideas?

      Re: Help! Loss Of Power?

It run's smooth up to 3500.
      There's just no power.
Once it hits 3500, it starts missing, and I have to shift to the next gear.

It feels like a restricted exhaust/clogged cat, but I would expect a trouble code for a bad cat?

Im 99% sure its your cat. I pulled my car out of service for a clutch master cyclinder and the same thing happened on my 2001 3.8 m5. It wouldnt for the world crank over 3500. turned around and they found a bad catalytic converter. You can get them at your local muffler shop. ;-)

Yea, something like that is likely to happen after highway cruising, and then coming to a stop because of the constant heat for a long time, and then the change in flow, and motion of the exhaust. Same thing happened to me.

Well, I was planning on changing the exhaust system anyway, so I guess I'll try that.
