  • Newbie!!

hey i just bought a 98 camaro for 5k w/ only 65,000 on it and i dont plan on doing much to it but i want to do a few mods but not go overboard since it is my daily driver. one reason why im asking first is im not to good at al the electrical stuff and computers in cars. i have a 86 T/A and im ripping te computer outa it since all its doin is choking the new motor in it. i was lookin at doing intake mmods first and mabey a highflow cat. posilby in the future get manderal bent exhaust but i want to keep it sounding stock cause i dont like the sound of exhaust on a v6. ive searched and i have some ideas on things i want to do but agina i want to keep it mild since i dont need two cars that get 6mpg!!!

    Re: Newbie!!

Nice looking car, sounds like you got a really good deal too! As for the mods.. I dealt with the same dillema. What it comes down to, is that if you want to get maximum performance out of your mods, then it takes more than intake. Intake is practically worthless without headers and new exhaust and possibly a cam because the factory exhaust restricts air flow so greatly that intake isnt enough.. and if you only put on intake you might get 5-10 hp. I know how you feel about not liking the v6 sound with aftermarket exhaust.. im the same way.. and all these factors led me just to keep my car stock. Once you start modding, it never ends, its just one thing after another. I've watched my boyfriend take his idea of just freshening up his LT1 with a cam and new plugs, to building a full blown 383. Modding is like a disease.. beware! lol, hope this helps. :)

      Re: Newbie!!

      Welcome, nice car

what are u asking exactly? sounds like u already have a good idea for cheap mods that wont hurt ur mpg too much. the foundation/basic mods are good. i saw a slight increase in mpg with intake and spark plug wires and stuff.

              Re: Newbie!!

i think id actually keep the bra to prevent the front end from fading and getting rock chips in it from the road.. i actually regret not getting one for my firebird when i got the car cause now the front ends all faded and chipped

                Re: Newbie!!

i had thought of removing it for the summer but when fall and winter come around i had thought of putting it back on or i could leave it and evertime i wash it i could take it off but that would be a pain:(
