Q about computers(my car)

[99 RS Camaro]

i felt my car was too good for its catilytic converter, so i ditched it and put a striaght pipe in its place(oh god, dont remember 5-6 mo ago maybe longer,??). soon as i did this the SES light came on, (which i expected). anyways, i never really payed attention to it because i knew what it was, but recently due to my cars temp being hot, i decided to go to autozone and get a free scan just to make sure. they test it and i get p0420(or whatever the code for no cat is). he then said he would reset my computer(is the PCU the same thing as the computer???) so i wouldnt get any codes. he did it and it stayed off for like 3 days then came back on. what do you all think it is? cat??? or should i go back and have him do it agian(to make sure its not something else)? car drives/runs fine, other than how hot it gets sometimes.

yes it is the cat code all he did was delet the code the same as if you disconected your battery the code will still come back if the problem is still there they have o2 mods to fool the computer to think the cat is there

yea it will keep coming back on unless you get an o2 sim or pcm tune

thanks for the responses. yea, i know about those o2 sims but dont really want to spend 100+ bucks on it. i'll just take my chances and hope that that is the only reason its on. agian, thanks for the responses :)

I have a 95 with a 3.4 and tommorow morning I'm gonna throw on a new magnaflow cat :banana:. Will that throw a code at all? Is it easy to replace the cat?

got my O2 sim from 3800performance for $30 shipped, and I have a 96, I think the 98-02 ones are $10 cheaper.
