ok, so this has gone on as long as i've had the car but i'm just getting curious... when i turn off the car, a few seconds afterwards i hear a clicking kind of noise from the engine bay. its hard to describe but i guess it'd be kind of a ratcheting/clicking noise. happens if i turn the key to accessory and then back off. is this normal? what is it?
btw... 2000 with the factory alarm.

sounds like it could be the starter? or something to do with it

I don't know what is causing the sound, but I do know that I hear it all the time from cars that have just shut off. It's a kind of a "tick...tick...tick" sound. Never seemed to be an indicator of a problem though, so you're right to not worry. :)

your hearing your gauges, when you turn it to accesory, they move, which is why you hear the noises.

The ticking is probably the starter solenoid.

honda's are notorious for the ticking. when my cat went bad it started ticking as well. a baffle broke in my cat and it always ticked. replaced the cat and have never heard anything since. how many miles are on your car?

Does it come from somewhere around the dash? My problem isn't the same as yours, but I was getting a constant clicking like a relay from the dash area close to the engine bay when my key was in the accessory position and the door was open, and it was in sync with the door chime. It turned out to be a bad relay in the BCM backfeeding through the windshield wiper motor... or at least that's what the dealer told me. I don't know if it helps any, but does it happen with the door closed too?

yeah, door open or closed. i know for a fact that its not gauges. the sound is DEFINATELY coming from in the engine compartment somewhere. sounds like its right over the engine. i dont think its the starter cuz that only gets energy when you turn the key to start doesnt it? it'll happen a good 3-5 seconds after i turn off the car. i'm more inclined to think its something with the security features. it sounds more like a deadbolt getting locked. but with kind of a ratcheting action. best way to describe it. if i had a digi-camcorder i'd definately post it up.
