  • installing HPP3 after PCM reset

    Hey all,
this may be a stupid question but do you have to reinstall the HPP3 after you reset your PCM or disconnect the battery terminal? Just wondering?
    Thanks,
    Shane

Unless you have something seriously wrong with your car the HPP3 programing should still be there.

I know I have never had to reprogram after a PCM reset of a battery disconnect.

no, only after a dealer reflash (which you should set back to stock before they do that, or you might make the HPPE3 a paperweight) will you need to reprogram teh computer.

Does anybody know if a Hypertech Power Programmer will work for my '99 Firebird? Their website looks like it'll only work on 2000-03 3.8L V6's. (I e-mailed them, but haven't heard back yet).

I never did find anything like a chip/programmer for my '97 Camaro 3.8L either.

I'm also wondering about OBD scanners if anyone has any ideas about the best ones to use? (Auto Xray...Actron...Equs?)

I just bought this black '99 Firebird-69k miles 5-spd/T-tops last week (to match my auto/hard-top black '97 Camaro-111k miles! both are 3.8L) It's in excellent condtion except for the fact that this Bird is really slow, pretty sure it's something that can be corrected through the ECM/OBD, like the timing is a little off, (it's not misfiring, oil pressure is good). I dropped in a K&N filter ASAP, but no change in performance.
