First time repairing a bad head gasket. I have put the heads back on and replaced the push rods. I followed the manual and kept the rods in the order in which I removed them. I have tightened the rockers down, according to the sequence in the manual. I rotated the engine around, each time checking the rods for play. If they were still loose, I would tighten the nut another turn or two. I did this for several rotations until there was no play. My question is, how do you know if you have them to tight?

Re: rocker, push rod adjustment
you dont need to adjust our rockers, they are automatic or whatever.
I'm sure you overtightened, since you torqued them, then tightened further.
Did you reuse the old bolts or get new ones? Cause the stock factory bolts are torque to yield which means they can only be used once. I have either Harland Sharps or Comp Cams reuseable rocker arm bolts up for sale if ya need them (never opened).
Which way did you rotate the engine? I know for sure you shouldnt go counter-clockwise! GL!
p.s. the stock factory head bolts are torque to yield too2k2 camaro, K&N, SLP whisper lid, Konis, AEM, HP Tuners, Angel eyes/Halos, CF SS ram air hood, 4.10s, Zexel Torsen, UMI SFCs, CrossFire, BFGs, Gatorback, Catco, Flows, and TLC! DONT feed the Trolls!

Re: rocker, push rod adjustment
I'm very sorry. You didnt tell me you had a 3.4. It wasnt in your info that you had a 3.4
You also didnt say what manual you have. But if you have the Haynes, on page 2A-3 it says "When play is eliminated at the pushrod, tighten the nut an additional 3/4 turn.
It says ALOT more
there is like 2 paragraphs on "Adjustment" page 2A-32k2 camaro, K&N, SLP whisper lid, Konis, AEM, HP Tuners, Angel eyes/Halos, CF SS ram air hood, 4.10s, Zexel Torsen, UMI SFCs, CrossFire, BFGs, Gatorback, Catco, Flows, and TLC! DONT feed the Trolls!
