    Its a failsafe...

do you want one bad tank of gas to destroy your motor?

we're talking about 9.4:1 V6 iron block f-bodies, not 13:1 all aluminum bikes. they should feel free spend money on whatever the VP rep tells them to.

I dunno, whatever the standard replacement plug range is I suppose. I just go into Autozone/Advance and ask for 6 Rapidfires.

Oh, I agree it's kind of a moot point now since I have tuning in the PCM I get ping with even cheap 92 octane gas. So far it's been good with BP 93 and Sunoco 94, haven't tried Exxon 93 yet.

But I have had my car for 8 years and 120k miles. It was stock when I bought it and it has exhibited the ping under heat/load on 87 since day one. I'd like to think I keep my car in good running condition. When I say I get ping, it's not all the time, but on a tank of 87 in the summer time I would probably hear it at least once a day.

You can tell me I'm crazy and it's my imagination but I'm telling you I could tell a difference between 87 and 92, stock, modified, whenever. Don't treat me like I'm stupid, at least give me the courtesy to acknowledge that what I'm hearing is true. The average person would probably not notice it because most people don't pay that close of attention to how their car is running.

I don't believe there is anything necessarily wrong with my car because I have noticed the same thing with other cars I've owned. I can hear ping from my Trailblazer too on 87, but I don't spend the extra on higher octane gas for it unless I'm towing because I'm not concerned with performance in that vehicle.

Seafoam your car you probably have carbon build ups that are heating up and causing detonation in the cylinders.

my 94 was in my family since new, solde it with 130k miles on it.

never had an issue with pinging.

Yes, I've run a cleaning agent through the intake and the throttle body, not that product specifically but similar. I run fuel injector cleaner in the tank on a periodic basis as well.

I know temps are cooler up in Vermont, but you're saying you never heard a car ping on 87?

Never, probably ran one 25 gallons of 93 octne, and 2 gallons of 100 octane(almost ran out of gas at track, needed some to get to gas station)

out of like 40k I drove it, doubt my dad ever put 93 in it. He can be cheap.

Well I'm stumped then. You must have some good gas up there is all I can say, or else all our gas sucks. Like I said, I can hear a ping occasionally when I get on it in my '02 Trailblazer (not that I get on it alot, LOL) and that's any brand of 87.

Man if your putting in 93 octane and noticing a power increase, then just imagine what kind of difference you would see with 112 race gas. Go fill your take up and see what it does, should give you another 50hp.
