  • Rpm's surge sometimes

It happens once the car heats up it seems. It runs fine and high throttle and WOT. around 2 or 2.5k rpms if you tap the throttle and let off it will some times surge a bit.

I'm thinking maybe a vaccum leak? I have no idea where though.

Can an upper intake gasket leak cause this, cause a while ago i found coolant near the upper intake, and i think im hearing a tick from that area in the engine compartment.

Also, i need to clean/check the IAC valve.

I recently removed the EGR alltogether, and put a sim (the zzp sim) on it. I havn't gotten any lights.

    Anyone have any ideas/pointers?

I would check your plug and wires, coils, 02 sensors, visually check your tps, maf sensor and I just saw you removed your egr so its not sticking open, i would still check your circuits for it. Ohm and voltage drop the wires for everything if you know how and know what to look for. do you think you might have gotten bad fuel. do you think your cat could be clogging? maybe torque converter. vaccum leak is possible. maybe your pump. there is more stuff for this if something doesnt panout

yes, an upper intake gasket could cause an intake leak....vaccum leak

well, i dont think its the egr, since its not there :D

i suppose it COULD be plugs or wires, but i would have to doubt it. they arent really that old, and i periodically pull them and they always look to be burning perfectly. it doesnt seem like something ignition related.

what should i look for on the tps? i recently swapped TB's and i could always just throw the other tps on there to see if it goes away. i have an extra maf sensor as well, but i dont think thats the problem. i suppose trying them both wouldnt hurt.

"Ohm and voltage drop the wires if you know how" - i dont know how... could you fill me in?

bad fuel? wouldnt that cause some funny business in the whole rpm range, and not just at light throttle?

(not trying to shoot at your ideas... just thinking aloud :) )

        Re: Rpm's surge sometimes

bad fuel probably would be the full range but service info isn't specific when you look up the symptom surge and it didn't get real specific when checking for the problem. there was a bulletin over the tps surging during highways speed and/or light throttle due to an intermittent operation.

I just basically mentioned most of the stuff mentioned under surge including that tps to help you out. :)

I edited my post a couple times so read back...i later saw you had removed your egr.

do you have an Ohm or volt meter?

i know that my dad has several. so yes.

i dont think its the cat, its relatively low miles, and shouldnt be an issue.

i just swapped the tps sensor, i see what that does next time i take it out.

              Re: Rpm's surge sometimes

I had this same problem, just thought it was normal. The only thing I noticed that blldogg said that jumped out to me and that you didn't already rule out was cat, My cat clogged up shortly before I garaged it for upgrades. I cut it off, but don't recall whether it still did it after I cut it out, I'd go drive it and check, but my engine's next to the car on a stand right now... Have you ruled out the cat??? b/c if you have, be sure to keep us up to date if you figure it out.

(my wires, coils and plugs were all less than a year old)
