Hey gusy will a gauge cluster out of a TA work on our cars if you just plug it in in our clusters place. I know it will fit but will it get the same signal sent to it for the speedometer to work right? Also who cna burn the milage on it so it will match what I hve on my curretn gauge cluster?

it is a big pain in the butt and costs a way to much to do the swap and be worth it. Tach will be off and all. Mileage you are stuck with what is in the TA cluster. Not worth it just to have 30mph more on the cluster...how often do you really go over 120 anyways?

You can do some searches here on the boards. Guys have done it but it is a lot of work just to have a higher number speedo. You also need the same year speedo I believe if I remember correctly when this was a big topic awhile ago on here

Well, I did the swap on my bird about 18 months ago and had no problems whatsoever. Tach works fine and the Speedo is acurate.

The reason a lot of people beleive that the Tach will be out is because the TA has an extra 2 cylinders, but, the V6 tach is wired differently and somehow, GM have wired it in such a way that the Guages are interchangeable - maybe this is so that costs would be kept down - remember that V6's fitted with the Performance option (i forget the Factory code), had a derestricted top end ad so would have had the 150mph speedo. Given that the numbers of cars fitted with this option wasn't likely to be very high, it would not have been cost effective to have produced a separate 150mph guage cluster for V6 cars.

Well aren't we a "Negative Nancy"? It sounds like you haven't done this swap, so how would you know what a pain in the butt it is or how much it costs?

Yeah do a search. There are quite a few that have done this. Look in the Apperance section I remember posting about this same topic last week, I think. I wouldn't worry about the mileage... if you ever sell the car put the lesser mile cluster in.

This isn't a belief of mine, it's a reality. I think what you are saying is true though, but I think that applies to the later model (98-02) F-bodies. Mine is a 95 with a 94 cluster, and the tach is off. There wasn't a performance package in the earlier 4th Gen years.

              Re: 150mph TA gauge cluster

maybe there are certain 98+ then that can do the swap with no problems. From the ones that have tried it in pre98 ones they had to get a dakota digital device for the tach and such.

RT1- I have been here a long time and seen/read a lot of people that have tried this swap to only find out it costs to much and isn't actually worth it in the end. There might be a few such as antman that got a special coded car or something and it works alright.

Well congrats on being here so long. I've been here awhile also, and have seen those posts. Those posts are what gives members the ideas to mod their car. This is probably where I found out that it would work on my car. You shouldn't be so quick to dismiss what you have only read about, and let the members who have done it post about it.

I've done the swap, looks great and and works great, minus the tach, and I can live with that. Well 'worth' the time. All it cost was the cluster itself.

Stop abusing your Moderator status. There was no reason for editing my post. Just because you don't agree, doesn't mean you edit.

                  Re: 150mph TA gauge cluster

I am not abusing nothing, just don't want to mislead people thinking it is a simple swap with every car and that everything will be fine. I am not being a "negative nancy" about this, just stating the true facts so that people don't get to deep into this swap and find out what they could have read online about it before they dove in. If they can live with a tach off and all then they can go ahead with it. If they want to do it and do it correctly it can cost $$ that people weren't expecting to pay for the swap.

Oh and about doing the swap, I was going to do it as well a couple years ago tell I researched it more and figured out the $$ it would be.

RT1- lets keep this on the swap please and don't try to make this into a word war. I can use my power then and lock it if we can't keep this on the swap info only.

Well I have an 01 car with the Y87 package so if what he said is true then I should be able to plug it in and it work fine minuts the odometer. I cna have it burned to match mine if I cna find somoene to do it.

Yep, that should do it. I don't know if you would have to go to the dealer for the mileage.

Well you are. And I think you're confusing doing a cluster swap with getting rid of the speed limiter... which is the problem, and the $$$ with the pre 98s.

so 98+ if the donor is the same year and body will be a direct no hassle swap?

Looks like it. Be ready for anything though. Keep an eye on your gauges, to see if your car has any kind of differances before you sell your current cluster.
