Problem please help!!!!

I was driing todya with my gf to the part store to get some bulbs. She turne don the AC and when i wnt to stop the car almost died. I then turned it off and there after when I hit the brake the car would almost stall nd the Voltmeter woudl jump. I got to the part store and when I went to park it did stall out. A guy at the auto paart store checked my belt and said the it flexes too much so that could be casusing it to skip and that my belt tensioner coud be bad as well. So know when I put on the brake the voltmeter will drop and bounce some and the car almost or will die out if I dont push the gas a bit. I was thining it could be the belt or tensioner or my alt.



I havent replaced the belt in liek 3 years or so. I replaced my fuel filer a couple of months ago. About a month ago I had to have my TPS system [new TB and tach module] repalced cuz it went bad then had to retune my MAF. The day after i picked up my car after fixing the TPS the TB leakd coolant all ove the engine bay including the alt. I fixed the leak with new TB gaskets and a spacer. I just put in new spark plugs , NGK iridiums. I think that sums it up so if anyone can be helpful , please do. Thanx!!!

i would say start with the belt as it hasn't been done in such a long time. after that i would have the alt tested. that is what i would do.

maybe get your alternator tested. put a voltmeter on it

Yea im gonna get a new belt and tensioner tomorrow. I put in a new Optima batt couple of days ago so thats good. Ill have them test teh alt. while im there.

for the 3.8 the tensioner is $137.83 from the dealer, just a little heads up, and it is no cakewalk to put on

Changed the belt today, but that didnt help any. The old one had some cracks in it put not the cause, but would have broeken. The belt tensioner was in good shape as well. I had my alt tested and it was charging at 14amps. I took it to the dealership where my warranty is still in effect and told htem what it was doing. Ironicly enogh there was a blue TA that a woman brought in there that had pretty much the same problem only she noticed it more at night when the lights were on. My guess she didnt check the gauge during the day. I found out that the same guy tuned her TA, but its not the tune he put int it cua he knows what he is doing. Hes tuned many many f-bodies and other cars with no problems. So my guess there maybe a glitch in the HP tuner program or the tune itself. So if the diagnostic dont show up anything then ill take it to retune from scratch. Its an electrical problem for sure somewheres. Then it could be a vacum leak somewhere like in the brake booster or soemthing making it draw more power form the alt. than needed. What are your thoughts now guys?

It might be the alternator, you might want to take an english class as well.

Fred: I was in a hurry to type out the reply so shutup. Dont act liek you've never made typos before.

Ok guys I had the car checked at a GM garage. Everything checked out just fine even with my tune in the car. I figured theyd see that the values and the other stuff that I changed was different from stock, but obviously not. They did find a loose battery cable on the new battery that I put in last week. The altenator once again checked out just find at almost 15amps. I called the guy who tuend my car and he said to unplug my MAF sensor again. So I did and the car ran fine. My buess is that where I had the TB replaced due to the bad TPS that the new MAF hasnt been completely broken in. So the MAF keeps recalibrating after we tune it. I'm gong Monday to retune it so hopefully it stays.
